Hearing Aids of Texas has been serving Houston since 1944. George Gaenslen III took over the business from his father in 1975. Prior to becoming a Hearing Aid Dispenser in 1970, he worked for Texas Hearing Instruments, a lab which designed and built some of the first ITE (in the ear) hearing aids in the late 1960’s. When he came into the family business, there were many questions as to the why and how of hearing aid dispensing and there were no answers available. Technical research led him to John A. Victoreen, PHD, a physicist who had written the book, “Basic Principles of Otometry” which describes the scientific approach to hearing aid dispensing and is the basis for the work George does today. George mentored with Dr. Victoreen at his lab in Maitland, FL where he learned the foundation of hearing aid dispensing.
